One of the most challenged texts that I’ve encountered in the years I’ve been teaching is this picture book, And Tango Makes Three. I had one student ask me, “Why is this banned? It’s about PENGUINS!” I love my open-minded students!

  1. When my kids were in elementary school we read this and then I told them it was banned and asked them to guess why. The most they could come up with was that maybe the hatching scene with the egg was too graphic a depiction of birth.
