Happy Indigenous Peoples Day! Three of my favorites from the past are We Are Grateful/Otsaliheliga by Traci Sorell, I Can Make This Promise by Christine Day, and Fry Bread by Kevin Noble Maillard. There are many more, but I couldn’t read them all in one day.
This fall break, I’m taking it easy. I need to relax! Deborah Hopkinson’s novel, We Must Not Forget, comes out in 2021, but I’m lucky enough to get a sneak peek now. Thank you, on behalf of the #booksojourn readers.
I’m listening to Charming as a Verb by Ben Philippe on Libro.fm. About 1/3 of the way through and I’m loving it. It’s light-hearted and funny — just what I need for this break.

I’ve not read I Can Make This Promise but have read the other two you shared for Indigenous People’s Day, both wonderful! I’ve read many Holocaust books through the years and more recent adult books, too, but thanks for sharing the Hopkinson book. I’ll put it and Charming As A Verb, too. Thanks, Jennifer!

Happy IMWAYR! We’re not having a Fall Break, this semester. Our college decided, due to the pandemic, to start a week early and end before Thanksgiving. So our students get a much longer winter break and the semester is a bit shorter. That means shoving more content into less time, but I think everyone is liking it so much they may decide to make this permanent. All three of your books for Indigenous People’s Day were fantastic! We Must Not Forget sounds really important. I’ve been horrified hearing about groups claiming the Holocaust didn’t happen. The Diary of Anne Frank made a huge impact on me as a child and it was humbling to later visit Auschwitz and other concentration camps during my time in Germany. I hope we truly do NEVER forget these horrific crimes. Thanks for sharing, Jennifer!
