Let’s be honest: it’s testing season in Indiana, my daughter moved to a new state, tomorrow is “doctor day,” and I’m not reading. I do have plans to read, and if I write these plans down, maybe you’ll help me implement the plans.

Shifting the Balance is a new Stenhouse title by Dr. Jan Burkins and Kari Yates. These two ladies’ collaboration makes for excellent PD reading. What they have done is taken The Science of Reading and Balanced Literacy reading models and used them TOGETHER in the classroom. Research at its best! Kindergarten through 2nd grade literacy teachers, you need this!

I was lucky to receive Bea Is For Blended by Lindsey Stoddard as my next ARC. This will be published in May, and I cannot wait for some specific students to read this. Bea’s mom will marry Wendell, and her team is growing by not one, but three boys, and some pets, too. Bea is also worried that her school may not get the all-girls soccer team that she longs for.
It’s Monday! What are YOU reading?
IMWAYR is a weekly blog hop with kid lit co-hosts Jennifer from Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee and Ricki from Unleashing Readers. The original IMWAYR, with an adult literature focus, was started by Sheila at Book Journeys and is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. It’s a great way to share what you’re reading and get recommendations from others. We encourage you to write your own post sharing what you’re reading, link up, leave a comment, and support other IMWAYR bloggers by visiting and commenting on at least three of the other linked blogs each week.

Hope things settle down and you get a bit of reading time soon, Jennifer!

I love your honesty—I have not been staying on top of reading very well either! (I was going to cram some in today, but I’ve spent my free time reading everyone else’s posts!) The books you have on deck sound excellent. Thanks for the great post!

Good luck with the reading. These slumps can be challenging to navigate through. On a positive note – all it takes is one good read and you will be back in the game.
