Slice of Life Tuesdays: The Merry Month of May!

Slice of Life Small LogoThe Merry Month of May!

May is MY month! It’s true. I’ve claimed it; it is mine. Starting with May Day (which was also my Grandma Jo’s birthday), I celebrate spring, life, love, happiness, and freedom.

May 1: Spring time! May Day!  May 6: Love for my 26 years of marriage (that’s a long time)!  May 18: Life — my life, my birthday.  May 25: Memorial Day, which is my freedom weekend usually. Also love, remembrance, and family times. May is absolutely MY month!

I love to share, though, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found out many of my students share in my joy over the month of May. Several students giggled happily during a conversation I had, and I overheard them talking: “Hers is the 18th? Mine is the 14th!” “Mine is the 6th!” “Mine is the 28th!” etc. It turns out that we are going to celebrate birthdays this month, and we are inviting the rest of the class along for the ride! Cake (no ice cream — melting issue), presents (books and pencils, I assume!), and pizza lunch on the 18th.

I told the class, “I’d better see balloons and cards!” LOL — I was kidding. It’s going to be great!

Happy May, everyone! Enjoy!

SOL Tuesday: Getting ready to party!

I am ready to party! May is my month: my anniversary, Mother’s Day, and my birthday. Memorial Day…end-of-standardized-testing windows (a great celebration!)…friends and family graduations…retirement parties. There is so much to do in May!

Party time!

I was just thinking about celebrations. Our school will celebrate spring and ridding ISTEP from our computer lab schedules. I am personally celebrating life events with my family. My colleagues and I are meeting at our favorite local hangout on Friday to celebrate a friend’s retirement after teaching “forever.” There is so much to do in May!

Party time!

Celebrating spring weather (finally!) and the opening of the pool on Memorial Day weekend all just make me smile from ear to ear. Party time! I hope that you have many celebrations on your plates this spring. I wish you the best! All of you who are ready to party… let’s get it started!

Happy Birthday!

My sister’s birthday is today. Since I won’t see her tonight, I’ll send her virtual blog greetings!

As the older sister (and wiser, LOL!), I should be the person to take care of family situations, but I’m not good at that. She is the one who always comes through to help everyone, to cook for everyone, and to throw the best parties in the family! I guess she’ll throw her own birthday party, and I will attend. Sis came through for everyone when my grandmother passed away, and just a few weeks ago again when my dad passed. She was there at the hospital, she was there to make the phone calls, and she was there to be a strong presence even in a time of sorrow. My sister is amazing!

I’m not much of a cook. Sure, I can stir ingredients and pop chicken into the crock pot, but my sister is one of those special made-with-love cooks. Her chicken and noodles are delicious! And her chocolate nachos with strawberries on top are to die for! Whenever there is a family function, she is the one to cook up a storm. My mom even complains that she prepares way too much — on Christmas Eve we eat her cheese-and-olive trays and sneak petite cookies — no one is ever hungry for the ham.

Speaking of eating too much, any party my sister throws is a blast. She invites everyone, and there is always an activity paired with loads of food. Summer days are for pool parties, with grilled hamburgers, chips, and homemade cheese dip, along with vegetables, fruit bowls, and chocolate chip cookies. Winter holidays include turkey or ham, mashed potatoes, peas, corn casserole, and other yummy treats to munch on while watching sports or movies.

My sister is the best in the world! Yes, I’m biased, but it IS her birthday. Happy Birthday!
